“I’m fine, I’m fine. Just need to...lie down for a little bit. You go on to the meeting—I’ll be at home, all right?”

She wanted to tell him to go right to bed, to not stop off in the kitchen for a drink or two before passing out on the couch. But Casey understood that stubbornness wasn’t only a trait of the Stone brothers—all the Redtooth men had it to some extent, her dad no exception.

  “All right. Just...get some sleep.”

Her dad offered a groggy nod before turning and heading back in the direction of their cabin. By this point, the crowd had nearly all dispersed, and Casey knew there was nothing to do but get to the meeting. She approached the alpha cabin and knocked on the front door.

“Come on in.” The Stone brothers all had the same gruff, deep voice, but Casey recognized this one as Bryce’s.

She opened the door and stepped inside. The alpha cabin was a hell of a home, massive and spacious, three stories high and more like a mansion than a cabin. Michael Stone’s influx of money had allowed the Redtooth pack to live in luxury in the middle of the woods, all of the cabins electric-powered and appointed with any of the modern conveniences of an apartment in the city.

And at a large round table in the center of the living room were the Stone brothers. They were seated on the far end, and at the other were Juniper Barnes and May Reed—the other two omega females of the pack. May was willowy and blonde, with slight features and a trim body. She was around Casey’s age, but unlike her, had been ready to be paired off with a strong alpha rather than go to the big city.

“There she is,” said Hunter, a grin on his face. “Casey, have a seat.”

“Yeah,” said Jake. “We’ve been waiting for you to get started.”

Casey slid into the open seat across from the guys, between the two omegas. She nodded to Juniper and May, the two of them nodding meekly back. Casey was frustrated. Omega females were strong, sure, but these two hadn’t come close to developing their power and confidence. Whatever was going to be discussed at the meeting, Casey knew she would have to be the one to speak for the other two.

“So,” said Casey. “You guys are taking orders from your dad.”

She wanted to make sure everyone was well aware of the real power of the pack.

“That’s right,” said Jake. “But that doesn’t mean old pops isn’t going to be giving us some leeway when it comes to day-to-day operations.”

“Fine,” said Casey. “But why am I here? Why are Juniper and May here?”

“Yeah,” said May softly. “I don’t know a thing about running a pack.”

“Well,” said Hunter. “Thing about that is you’re not going to be doing any pack-running. We called you here to let you all know what we’re planning on doing to stay alive.”

Casey already didn’t like the direction the meeting was going.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” she asked.

Bryce leaned forward, putting his ropey forearms on the wooden table. “What we said just now to the pack—if we’re going to survive, we’re going to have to come to some kind of arrangement with the other packs in the region, the ones who haven’t teamed up with Byron.”

“All right,” said Casey. “Makes sense.”

“And,” said Hunter, “we’re thinking the best way to secure those alliances is through marriage.”

Casey’s jaw nearly hit the floor. She realized right away what was going on.

  “Wait, what?” asked Juniper. “Marriage?

“That’s right,” said Jake. “It’s not an easy call to make, but if we can pair off the omegas of the Redtooth pack with alphas of the other ones, then that’ll act as a...mutual defense policy. We’ll be tied up together, ready to protect one another if it comes to that. And it will come to that.”

The other omegas regarded one another with the same worried look. Casey leaned forward and spoke.

“That’s a terrible fucking idea.” Her voice was stern and cutting.

The brothers all raised their eyebrows at the same time. “That right?” asked Jake. “You want to tell us why?”

“Because if we give away our omegas, that’ll reduce the power of our pack in the long run. Who would be giving us cubs if we don’t have our omegas?”

“We’ll have cubs,” said Jake. “But they’ll be the product of two clans instead of just ours.”

“I don’t like it,” said Casey. “Isn’t the whole idea to protect the Redtooth pack? How are we going to do that if we’re just blending with the other packs?”

Juniper spoke up. “I...I don’t know about all this. Aren’t omegas supposed to imprint on an alpha? I always heard you can’t force that—it has to be between and alpha and omega who love each other, right?”

“That’s what they say,” said Jake. “But we don’t have time for love right now. Any day now, Byron and the rest of the wolves might come in to finish the job. And if we’re not ready, they’ll wipe us out.”

“And this is what your dad said?” asked Casey. “He’s OK with this?”

“His exact orders,” said Hunter. “From his mouth to your ears.”

Casey looked over the brothers. Something strange struck her—there wasn’t the typical confidence that she’d come to associate with the Stones. They were holding back, not sharing how they really felt.

“And what do you guys want to do?”

The brothers flashed her the same confused expression.

“What...what are you talking about?” asked Jake.

“That’s your dad’s plan. But you three are the ones in charge here. What do you want to do? Do you really want to give away us omegas to random alphas that we haven’t even imprinted on?”

The brothers said nothing, all glancing at one another. Something was on their minds, Casey could tell.

“Always been one to speak your mind,” said Jake finally. He crossed his thick arms over his chest, and for a moment, Casey was distracted by the way his biceps looked on the verge of busting through the sleeves of his sport shirt.

“If you think I’m going to be a good little omega and do what I’m told, you’ve got another thing coming.”

“Stupid us for forgetting,” said Hunter. He was dressed in a dark green utility shirt, his eyes behind thick-framed glasses. Casey always loved how Hunter seemed to have the perfect blend of brainy and brawny in his look.

“Right,” said Bryce. He was dressed in a simple white V-neck, his colorful tattoos visible down his arms and through the top of the V of his shirt. The dashing, passionate artist who’d seduced Casey before.

Casey had been attracted to all of the brothers back in high school, as much as she didn’t want to admit it. She’d fallen for each of their unique charms, but each of them had driven her away, left their own individual scar on her heart. Back then, she’d been just a kid. But she’d grown, become tougher over the years. And now there she was, standing up to the men in a way they hadn’t expected.

“Well,” said Casey. “Let’s hear it—what do you guys want?”

Jake let out a snort. “What do we want? We want to fight. We want to keep our omegas and let them imprint on who they want.”

“Right,” said Hunter. “We don’t just give away our people. That’s not who the Redtooth pack is.”

“We fight and we win,” said Bryce. “And if we lose, we go down being who we are.”

Casey couldn’t help but let a small smile form on her lips. She glanced over at Juniper and May, who were more than pleased with the answers of the brothers.

“But it’s not that simple,” said Hunter. “Our dad...he’s the alpha. And we’re here to execute his orders.”

Jake scoffed. “Yeah, but we’re not going to be mindless drones.”

“That’s right,” said Casey. “Your dad’s the alpha right now, but you three are going to be taking over the pack before too long. And will there even be a pack to take over if we’ve given away all our omegas?”

Casey had to catch herself, to figur
e out why she was having such strong objections.

But the answer was clear after she’d given it a moment’s thought—she didn’t want to be paired off with some random alpha, just like May and Juniper didn’t want it either.

“But...” said May. “That still means we have to fight, right?”

“You’re not doing any fighting,” said Hunter. “That’s what the men are for.”

“Casey fought,” said Juniper. “I heard she took down a wolf all on her own.”

Casey smiled, secretly a little pleased that her actions had spread around the pack.

“That’s right,” said Jake. “She took down a wolf—but it was a gamma male, the weakest kind of wolf. Females aren’t front-line fighters, and it’s as simple as that.”

“I think you’d be surprised at what us females are capable of,” said Casey with a grin. “And besides, he wasn’t the only wolf I took down.”

“All right,” said Bryce. “We’re not here to discuss gender relations or whatever the fuck. We’re here to set a course for the future of the pack.”

“Fine,” said Casey. “But we need to figure out something.”

“Either way,” said Hunter. “We’re going to need to meet with the other packs. There’s not a chance they’re going to want anything less than an omega...but maybe we can come to some other kind of arrangement.”

“And I want to be a part of it,” said Casey.

More surprise from the brothers. “That right?” asked Jake.

“That’s right. It shouldn’t be the alphas who get to decide the fate of the pack. Us females get a voice, too.”

“And you’re going to be that voice?” asked Hunter.

“I mean...if the other women want it.”

Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted a grin on the faces of Juniper and May.

“She’s got my vote,” said May.

  “And mine too,” said Juniper.

  The brothers regarded one another.

“All right,” said Bryce. “We’re gonna talk about all this. You girls go back to your cabins, and we’ll come find you when we’ve made a decision.”

  “Until then,” said Hunter.

“Looking forward to it,” said Casey.

The three girls rose and left. When they were back outside, Casey felt a tinge of happiness—she was pleased she’d managed to stick up for herself like that.

“Those Stone brothers,” said May. “They’re...”

“Hot as hell?” asked Juniper. “No shit.”

“They’re assholes,” said Casey, the words blurting out of her mouth. “They think they run the damn place.”

“But they’re the alphas,” said May. “They do run the place.”

“Not yet,” said Casey. “Their dad’s still in charge. And I’m going to make sure they don’t lead us off a cliff.”

Juniper shook her head. “I don’t know how you managed to stand up to those guys. I’d have been too scared to say anything.”

“I’ve got...kind of a history with those guys,” said Casey.

Her face went red as she realized she’d maybe said too much.

“What kind of history?” asked Juniper.

“Wait,” said May. “Didn’t you date Bryce for a while in high school?”

“Um, something like that. But I know how stubborn they can be, how they think they’re the shit. Someone’s got to stand up to them and make sure they don’t get too full of themselves.”

“Well,” said Juniper. “We’re happy to see you do it. And it’d be great if we got the chance to actually imprint on alphas we, you know, cared about.”

“What about them?” asked May. “There’s three of them, three of us.”

Casey couldn’t explain the feeling she had next. It was a tightness in her stomach...jealousy?

“I don’t know,” said Juniper. “Those guys seem...different. Like they wouldn’t pair off like that.”

“Maybe they all need the same woman?” asked May.

“That’s crazy,” said Casey. “Three alphas to one omega? No way.”

“I don’t know,” said May as they continued on. “Three guys, all brothers? It’s...kind of hot.”

“It’s too much,” said Casey. “Can you imagine having to deal with all three of those assholes at the same time?”

Another tight feeling formed in Casey, but this time between her legs. She was confused, conflicted.

They reached May’s cabin, and the two said their goodbyes. Back at Juniper’s, they shared a hug.

“Thanks again for sticking up for us,” said Juniper. “I think...we’re going to get through this.”

When Casey was alone, she hurried back to the cabin. But as she approached, she saw something on the ground in front of the door.

It was an envelope. She snatched it up and hurried inside, thinking about what the contents could be. James was sleeping on the couch, and Casey was soon in her room.

Her heart raced. And all she could think about was the Stone brothers.

She had a feeling things were about to get very complicated.

  CHAPTER 8

  CASEY

Her heart raced as she shut the door to her bedroom. Without thinking, she locked it.

Casey knew that her father didn’t like locked doors in the house, but he was passed out, not likely to object. And besides, she had no idea what the letter would say, but she had a feeling it was something she wouldn’t want her dad to know about.

She dropped onto the bed on her stomach, her fingers working quickly to open up the envelope. Sure enough, inside was a letter, the handwriting ornate and masculine, almost like art. Her eyes scanned the contents.

It was...beautiful. The letter was about Casey, how the writer had admired her from afar, how he’d watched as she’d grown into a stunning, confident woman. It talked about how one day, a man would be lucky enough to claim her, to imprint on her.

And maybe it would be him.

She didn’t know what to think. Her eyes flicked to the bottom of the letter, and she saw that it was unsigned.

A secret admirer? People still do that? I guess writing a letter is strange enough.

It was all so odd. But she loved it all the same, her eyes scanning over the words over and over. When she’d had her fill, Casey opened the drawer of her nightstand and placed the letter and envelope inside.

She sighed and placed her hands on her stomach.

And to her surprise, the tight, hot feeling between her legs had only grown since her meeting with the Stone brothers.

She hated the effect they had on her, how they were cocky and arrogant and full-of-themselves...but how, despite all of this, she couldn’t resist them, couldn’t stop finding them irresistibly hot.

Without her even thinking about it, Casey’s hand moved from her stomach down between her legs. She pressed on her clit through her jeans, a pulse of arousal rushing through her body. The other hand went up her shirt, under her bra and over her breast. She squeezed her breast gently, the nipple going hard as she continued to touch herself through her jeans.

OK. I can take care of this quickly. I’m going to be working with the brothers over the next couple of weeks, so I might as well break the sexual tension now.

It all sounded so logical to her, like it was the most reasonable thing in the world.

Casey took her hand from between her legs and undid the button of her jeans and zipper, pulling the jeans down past her thighs. Underneath, she wore a maroon pair of boyshorts, a small pool of wetness visible between her legs.

She slipped her hand under the waistband of her panties and dragged her finger slowly over her clit. Casey let out a sigh and closed her eyes.

In the fantasy, she was in the alpha cabin, lying in bed and touching herself. She wore nothing, her shapely body bare as she made slow circles around her clit with her fingertip. The bed was soft, morning light pouring in through the curtains.

And right at the moment she slipped her fingers
into her pussy, the thud of heavy footsteps boomed outside of the door.

Someone was coming. In the real world, she smiled, wondering who would be behind the door in her fantasy.

The knob turned, and the door opened slowly. On the other side was...Hunter.

He stepped through, his blue eyes fixed on her behind his glasses, a small, sly smile on his lips among his shaggy beard.

Casey had always had a soft spot for Hunter. The brothers were all bright, but he was the intellectual of the three, the two of them always butting heads as they worked their butts off to be the top student in their high school.

“What’re you doing here?” she asked in the fantasy.

He smirked. “Heard you inside. You don’t think I’d recognize those moans a mile away?”

Casey continued to touch herself, moving her fingers in and out of her pussy as Hunter approached the end of the bed.

“You still remember what I sound like?” she asked.

“You kidding?” he moved from the end of the bed to the side, standing over her like a statue. “We only fucked once, but I’ve been thinking about it like crazy for years. I remember the way you sounded, the way you tasted, the way you looked underneath me as I pounded the hell out of you.”

Casey didn’t want to admit it, but she remembered it too. Hunter had been an incredible lover, the sexual tension of their academic competition fueling their lovemaking.

She sighed as she touched herself in the real world, biting down on her lip as the pleasure coursed through her body.

“But it’d be nice to have a reminder,” he said.

“I bet you’d like that,” she said.

“You know I would. And I bet you feel the same way.”

She bit down hard on her lower lip again, feeling an orgasm approach in the distance.

Hunter didn’t wait for a response. He undid the buttons of his shirt, pulling it off over his shoulders and tossing it aside. His body was perfect...Jake’s was brawny and built, Bryce’s lean and toned. Hunter’s was something in the middle, strong and athletic but also trim and lean, like a model and intellectual all at once.

He didn’t wait for her to say anything before sliding into the bed. His hand moved over hers, replacing it as he began to finger her dripping wet cunt. Casey sighed and bucked her hips, the pleasure almost too much to take.
